Hello my dear,
I am really happy to see that you are trying to understand better how to make a good choice while chosing your new painting.
In this article I wll tell you some of things that I learned by research and also some points that I think are important, after all we are talking about art and in this world, there is no truth that can’t be broken.
Then, let’s start!
art is about sensation
My first advice for you is: FEEL IT.
Abstract art has an incredible power to evoque sensations, and this must be your first step by choosing a canvas, since you will bring this sensation to your place, better to be comfortable with it.
As a second advice I would go through colours.
Think about which tones are present in the space you will settle the wall art. Don’t be afraid to break the rules, and go throught colours that might don’t be in your home-palette. If you like the colour, it is a very good first point on this ‘color matter’.
But if you prefere go by the traditional way, you can try this Adobe tool.
Here you can check a lot of combinations according to the theory of colours AND there is more: you can add a picture from your room and see if the colours match.
Does size matter?
Another interesting point is: a large surface asks for a large painting, just as a small surface goes better with an small painitng.
Better than small or big, I would talk about proportions.
Place a beautiful, but too small, painting in a big wall, might turns into a beautiful painting lost in a big surface, that doesn’t interact with the room in the manner you would like. And the opposite is also true.
It is important to pay attention to don’t over decorate a tiny space, with painting, other furniture, decoration articles or other components that could ruine your room making it heavy for eyes to see.
If you have a big wall, for example, but the art that you love is not really as huge as the wall asks, you also may try making some compositions with it.
What does it means? You can display more than one piece. You can imagine the area you would need to fill with the ‘big one piece’ and complete this space with several other pieces of art that you like.
Just remeber to keep them not so far from each other. This way you can create a sense of unit, as they were all a piece of one big thing (and actually they will be).
And to close this subject, I would like to give you another two fast an easy tricks:
Visual field
Center the art on the high of your eyes! This will never be wrong (since the art is for you to see), too high or too low.
Coherence
When displaying a painting above a piece of forniture, try make this at least 1/2 of the size of the piece, so you craet a congruent configurantion.

Thank you for reading until here. I hope you had enjoy this tips and that was trully helpful to you.
Now that I helped to clarify your mind and that everything is fresh, go to paintings and take a look on wich art suits best for you.
See you,
